Will Restructuring Solve Nigeria’s Problems?

Restructuring is a good concept, but can it solve Nigeria ’s problems OR do we need just sincerity of purpose in governance and in politics . If we are sincere, this entire problem might be solved sooner than expected.

But remember,  restructuring would neutralise the centrifugal forces, mute the cries of marginalisation and make every Nigerian happy and proud. It would make the federation less centralised , less suffocating and less dictatorial in the affairs of our country ’s constituent units and localities.

So, what’s your opinion.

If Nigeria is restructured along the lines of the 1963 constitution, it will be harder to steal because it is what you generate in your Region you get to keep. This current system where everyone is running to Abuja to receive monthly allocation is a magnate for corruption. But when you are the one generating you own money and paying the center, it becomes much harder to steal money because too many people know what is coming in and what is going out. It also makes it easier to hold leaders accountable

Restructuring is what we need at this time due to the unitary form of government we are practicing that has centralized every facet of the economy thereby crippling the efficacy of all sectors from Security, Banking, Health, Education and many more. The center becomes less powerful, but not weak, because it will retain core sovereign responsibilities such… Read more »

Restructuring can actually work when we all agree to do the right thing.

First strengthen all our political institutions to carry out there assign function without fear and set up a monitoring unit which should comprise of civil society to check the abuse of office holder. Trust me everybody go behave when u know that if u get caught u likely to go for it.

What ever restructuring that may happen, these four things must be in place 1. Resource control. This should be the foremost, and foremost and foremost. Nothing else should come before it. 2. Power. The authority to every aspect of generation, transmission and distribution of it should be in the concurrent list. 3. State Police. The experience we have had since the birth of this country with a population of over 200 million, more than 250 ethnic groups and a situation where you will have certain ethnic marauding groups killing and maiming people not of their ethnicity and SARs and every… Read more »

Yea. I agree and have been campaigning for everything you said. Use the geopolitical zones as federating units, with resource control, regional policing, and everything else, That will be the quickest way for the country to experience growth
